About Sugar Land

Sugar Land is one of the most affluent cities in the state of Texas. It is located in Fort Bend County and is within the Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown area. It has a population of 84,511 as of the 2011 U.S. Census. Incorporated in 1959, Sugar Land is the largest city in Fort Bend County.

From 2007-2011, Sugar Land was the "Fittiest City in Texas" for the population range of 50,000-100,000.

As tempting as its name, the city of Sugar Land is a sweet place to be. Ranked in 2010 as the safest city in Texas (and twelfth in the entire US!) it's hard not to imagine that the reason is the confections inspired by the Imperial Sugar Company headquarters.

Sweet Home Sugar Land

Not only has Sugar Land been accolade with the title "Fittest City in Texas" ever since 2007, it's also been noted in Money Magazine and by CNN as one of the best cities to live in across the country. Add to that list Forbes Magazine naming Sugar Land one of the top suburbs to live well in, and you're sure to feel comfortable in this 90,000 (and growing) community.

What Else is Cooking in Sugar Land

As the "Fittest City" title would imply, local sports are hugely popular here - both to participate in and to watch (check out the minor league baseball team, Sugar Land Skeeters). The Wharton County Junior College and the University of Houston Sugar Land are both located in Sugar Land, too. While it’s not exactly a small town, you’ll be sure to find friendly neighbors at events in the Sugar Land Town Square, with Music in the Plaza (featuring danceable funk, soul, Motown and R&B favorites), Movie Under the Moon, and ballroom Dancing Under the Stars – and that’s just the summer schedule! With a robust school district and city-run facilities, it's easy to see what makes Sugar Land such a treat.

As for fun facts, Sugar Land has been a source of inspiration for many. The town is the setting for Jennifer Love Hewitts's Lifetime series, The Client List. Plus, the country band Sugarland took their name from the town.
